You have a killer idea, but Hollywood isn’t buying it.
Do you follow your bliss or follow the paycheck?
This is a common crossroads that many creative self-employed people find themselves in today. Whether in the entertainment industry or in business for yourself, knowing the right path is key to your success.
How do you determine the right path?
The direction to head in is the one that gives you the least amount of emotional conflict. In other words: Follow your passion. ALWAYS.
Internal struggle and undesirable circumstances are brought about when your desires and your beliefs are not in alignment. You know you are in conflict when you feel the fear or worry that you may not get what you want.
Have you ever heard yourself saying something like this?
“I WANT to do this project… but I don’t BELIEVE it will bring me good results.”
The key is to either change the expectation of your desires OR change your beliefs about what you can achieve. In other words, set a reasonable but high standard for yourself.
Once in alignment, doing a Passion Project is one of the greatest things you can do to accelerate your career.
3 reasons why:
1) Passion Projects don’t allow you to play things safe.Growth happens at the limits of your abilities. When you use the same tools and the same ideas over and over again, how much do you really learn? Progress comes from pushing boundaries that can only be broken down by the momentum of your vision.
2) Following the paycheck gives your clients the wrong impression of who you are. If your resume is filled with projects that are not a good representation of the kind of work you want to do, how will anyone know where you really EXCEL? Push yourself to make each project the best experience you’ve ever had. As we grow, we can offer better work for the next client. You attract the type of work you do, so make it count.
3.) Passion Projects put you in the space of accelerated action. When you are truly excited about telling a story that is meaningful to you, no problem or challenge will derail you. The joyful state you are in will carry you and you will then start attracting the people people and the projects that you are excited about.
