At one level or another, traumatic experiences are a part of any life…
From the emotional shock of a parent or peer’s careless words in childhood to intense physical injuries or life-threatening emergencies and assaults….no one’s body is immune to the effects of traumatic events. Not only do these events take a toll on our psyches, in the book Reclaiming Your Body: Healing from Trauma and Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom (New World Library, June 14, 2017), author Suzanne Scurlock-Durana explains how they they cut us off from the wisdom of our bodies as well.
Are you paying attention to the signals your body is sending you?
“The body has its own language that is older and more primal than most of us realize,” writes Suzanne. “Most of us are conditioned at a very young age to turn off this inner guidance system of sensation, imagery, and inner knowing. Our priceless body wisdom is getting lost as our culture speeds up and becomes more technology driven. Compounding this issue is the fact that life’s traumas also cut us off from our body’s wisdom.”
How to reconnect with your body’s internal GPS
The book explains how unresolved trauma becomes lodged in our bodies, blocking the ability of its communication system to share its wisdom and strategies.
This can cause us to flounder when making decisions, remain in unsafe or less-than-ideal situations, and/or end up living a life that truly isn’t ours — while the whole time our body is madly signaling us with the answers and solutions we seek!

About the Book
Many of us have learned to ignore, deny, or even mistrust the wise messages our bodies give us. The result is that when trauma strikes, a time when we need every aspect of our beings to master the challenge, we may find ourselves disconnected from our greatest strengths. Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, who has spent thirty years studying the gifts of the body and teaching thousands how to reclaim them, began to recognize this strength, which she likens to a GPS, when she herself experienced a life-threatening trauma. Here she walks readers through different areas of the body, revealing the wisdom they hold and how to reconnect with that wisdom. As she shows in this warm, compassionate book, the body’s abilities are always available; we must simply reconnect with them.
